SPU Electric and Water Rates will see a modest increase in 2026, driven by higher operating, material and purchased power costs.
For electric service, there will be no increase to monthly service charges for residential or commercial/industrial customers, or to demand charges for non-residential customers. Kilowatt hour usage charges for both residential and non-residential customers will increase by 3% over 2025 rates. For a residential customer using 1,000 kWh the monthly impact is less than $4 per month ($3.80). NOTE: The average single family home usage is 632 kWh per month and the average apartment usage is 185 kWh per month – both lower than the 1,000 kWh example.
For water service, fixed service charges will increase by $1 per month for all meter sizes. Usage charges will increase 7% across all customer classes. Because SPU’s water rates remain highly competitive, residential customers using 5,000 gallons or less each month will see an increase of $1.05 or less per month.
While we are mindful of any impact rate increases may have on our customers, we are proud to be able to limit these adjustments and maintain minimal increases in the current economic climate.
