We keep it local because we are local.
SPU is a service provider who cares about this community and the people who live and work here. That’s why you’ll see us at community events where we are visible and can interact with our customers. We want to get to know each other better!
We use these opportunities to help educate the public on our services and programs, and to answer customer questions or receive feedback that helps us be an improved community partner.
As a public entity, we’re mindful of our commitment to our ratepayers and must follow state statutes regarding sponsorships. For these reasons SPU does not sponsor specific, individual groups. Our sponsorships are limited to community-wide events and functions with education and awareness at their core that can be attended and enjoyed by all SPU customers.
SPU community activities include being a drop site for Toys for Tots and Gifts for Seniors during the winter holidays. In the summer months, we are a proud “Headline” sponsor of Shakopee’s Rhythm on the Rails concert series. You will see SPU staff at select concerts interacting with our customers – answering questions or sharing information. Several times throughout the year we are an American Red Cross Mobile Blood Drive site. We also work with the City of Shakopee donating the flower baskets that line our beautiful downtown streets. April – September you may see SPU’s leadership team and staff volunteers cleaning areas along Hwy 101 and the west end of Memorial Park. We do this as a sponsor in Shakopee’s Adopt-A-Park program.
SPU employees also give of their own time to numerous charities and fundraisers within our community.
