The Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) is published each year by the MN Department of Health (DOH) based on water samplings tested by SPU and the MN DOH throughout a calendar year. The CCR identifies any contaminants in SPU’s water supply and their level of presence relative to federal water standards set by the EPA.
As the water purveyor for Shakopee, SPU is required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and MN Department of Health (DOH) to protect the distributed water supply to our customers. This includes wellhead protection to safeguard the groundwater aquifers and wells from contaminants, backflow prevention into the distributed water system, water treatment, water sampling and ongoing maintenance. Thanks to these efforts and the good fortune to be located near abundant groundwater sources, as well as topography that provides excellent filtration to these sources, we are happy to state SPU’s drinking water is safe.
Based on annual sampling and testing results, SPU’s water supply meets and/or exceeds drinking water standards set by the EPA. These standards limit the amounts of specific contaminants allowed in drinking water. NOTE: Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants in the water does not necessarily pose a health risk.
SPU partners with the MN DOH for sampling and testing. The sampling results are submitted to the state and then reported in the annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR ) each year. Samplings that did not identify any substances are not included in the table.
More than 100 regulated contaminants are tested every year. To further protect our water supply, SPU may also test for unregulated contaminants. These findings are also identified in the CCR. As stated above, it is not unusual to detect contaminants in small, trace amounts. No water supply is ever completely free of contaminants.
The CCR is produced annually and shared with the public no later than July 1 for the prior year’s results. The most recent CCR can always be found online at ShakopeeUtilities.com in the Water Service Information page. Every year your June billing statement will include a link to the newest report available. The current CCR contains results from January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023.
More information about Safe Drinking Water can be found in the links provided within the CCR.
